Norfolk, CT Garden
Project Brief: What was previously a family summer home was converted to a year-round residence. A new wing was added and the resultant altered footprint of the house called for a different approach to the landscaping. The property is nestled in a forested woodland and faces onto a broad field with views to a lake.
Objective: We worked with our client to preserve the natural woodland setting, maintaining views of the lake while, at the same time, creating sophisticated transitional garden spaces immediately surrounding the house. Solution: Dry stone walls were built to create spatial definition and establish boundaries between cultivated garden spaces and the surrounding woodland and paths were installed and these bordered wildflower meadow. Broad pea gravel by long and deep perennial beds and narrow borders at the foundation of the house. A dressed bluestone patio was installed for outdoor entertaining and rustic stone paths were created to link the woodland and fields to the newly cultivated areas. |
